Givonna Joseph
Prior to Hurricane Katrina, Ms. Joseph was the former Director of Education for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and a
singer with the New Orleans Opera Association. She was most recently seen as Lily in Porgy and Bess with the New Orleans

Soul Heirs Band
Band leader, singer, percussionist, song writer and trumpeter Desmian Barnes is a graduate of Xavier University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. This talented artist has also taught instrumental music, theory, arrangement, composition and has been director of concert, marching, jazz and orchestral bands at several local schools. Soul Heirs Band has played at numerous local venues. Its members include Dennis Hill, Keith Lewis, Charles Moore, Ribino Barnes III, Lester Wilson, Danielle Johnson and Desmian Barnes.

Experience the magic and mechanics of jazz firsthand! Students learn to distinguish different rhythms like traditional jazz, samba, rock and hip hop and interact with the artists

John Rankin
John Rankin is the best known solo acoustic guitarist in the New Orleans area and has cultivated a large and diverse audience for many years. 400 Hundred Years of Guitar
How do we still have and enjoy music that was written over 400 years ago? What are the three elements of music? How do we listen to music and what are the basic human responses? John Rankin answers these questions in an entertaining and educational program. The audience learns that music is timeless as they listen to earliest guitar pieces from the Renaissance through to the present day. Musical Gumbo
This program is designed to cultivate creativity, produce soulful, healing music, and to educate children of all ages on the history of our music and culture. It includes a specific
focus on the unique music and culture of New Orleans and its impact on the world music scene, the diverse forms of the American Classical music known as Jazz, and current trends in popular music. Around the World in Rhythm
The Panorama Jazz Band gives an engaging, kid-focused program of music from around the world. Young people learn to provide rhythm accompaniment to music from their own New Orleans to faraway places like Martinique, Poland, and Bulgaria. They are taught to identify the ensemble’s instruments that generally include clarinet, trombone, accordion, banjo, bass and drums and differentiate musical factors such as “loud vs. soft”, “high vs. low”, “fast vs. slow”, and “percussive vs. sustained”. Students also enjoy learning an authentic folk dance.
