Young Audiences Receives Big Easy Arts Education Award, Students Nominated for Best Ethnic Dance

Young Audiences of Louisiana is proud to announce that it will be presented with the prestigious Arts Education Award at the Gambit’s Big Easy Entertainment Awards’ Tribute to the Classical Arts. In addition to this honor, students from Young Audiences’ afterschool program at Woodmere Elementary are nominated for Best Ethnic Dance Presentation for their original piece “Something Sweet” performed at D’Project Inc.’s Southern Voices: Dance Out Loud 4 at the Contemporary Arts Center.

The Tribute to the Classical Arts award luncheon will be held on Thursday, February 9th, at the Hotel Monteleone and will feature a special performance by the nominated students from Woodmere Elementary.

For fifty years Young Audiences of Louisiana has been a leader in arts in education, bringing the arts to thousands of school children each year. Using an innovate method of blending arts with core curriculum, Young Audiences has grown into a multi-faceted organization that offers multi-disciplinary school performances, arts-integrated residencies, and after-school and summer programs for students across the state. Young Audiences has a proven record of student success; students enrolled in the organization’s after-school programs have shown improved test scores, fewer absences and a significant decrease in disciplinary actions.
