Students from Crocker Elementary School Show New Artwork

Annual Art Show Held At The School Curated By Master Teaching Artist Jamar Pierre
Published: May 16, 2013

Students from Crocker Elementary will share their new artwork with the community on Friday, May 17th, 2013 at 6:00 PM at Crocker Arts and Technology School (2301 Marengo Street).  The show is free and open to the community. Work will be for sale.

“This has been an incredible experience for every one involved. I am really going to miss the kids.” Said Jamar Pierre, the lead teaching artist who has been working with the students at Crocker Arts and Technology School for three years. “With patience and dedication the students have learned the basic elements of painting and drawing. I have seen the confidence and their skills as community citizens grow tremendously. It is my hope that the kids can sell their work and keep all the money, so that they will know that they can make their dreams come true with lots of hard work and focus.”

Young Audiences of Louisiana was founded in 1962 with the mission to inspire, empower, and connect children and communities through education, arts, and culture. Over the last 51 years the organization has grown from presenting school performances of chamber music to our current position as the state’s largest provider of arts-integrated and afterschool programs. Since 2006 Young Audiences has operated afterschool programs in schools throughout Greater New Orleans that promote academic excellence and social growth. External evaluations have shown that students enrolled in Young Audiences afterschool programs outperformed their peers on standardized tests. In addition, students in these programs showed fewer disciplinary reports and increased school attendance.
