Philip Spence, Arts Integration Coordinator
Washington, D.C.-born, New Orleans-based painter Phillip R. Spence uses vertical strands of marks and intuitive patterns to compose his acrylic colorfield paintings edge to edge. Trained as an illustrator and graphic designer, he finds mindfulness and spiritual development in his abstract practice. In 2011 he completed murals at the Interim LSU Public Hospital Cafeteria and the NOPD Child Abuse Unit Office. Since 2009, Spence has taught visual arts in New Orleans high schools and middle schools, striving to inspire appreciation for the visual arts while continuing his voyage as a painter.
