Phillip Spence

Washington DC born, New Orleans based painter Phillip R. Spence uses vertical strands of marks and intuitive patterns to compose an array from edge to edge of his acrylic colorfield paintings surfaces. Trained as an illustrator and graphic designer he finds mindfulness and spiritual development in his practice of abstract painting. In 2011 while working for Orleans Parish Sheriffs Office he completed murals at the old University Medical Center and NOPD Child Abuse Unit Office. He has dedicated his professional life to visual arts education as art classroom teacher in New Orleans high schools, and middle schools since 2009. He strives to find innovative methods to motivate people to appreciate visual arts practices while continuing his voyage into the art world as a painter.
