The past school year has been a challenging one for us all but together we will emerge stronger as we establish clear priorities for
rebuilding our communities that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The arts have always been a powerful tool in helping children to
express themselves and to recover their resiliency skills. We appreciate your continued support during these difficult times and look forward
to serving your arts in education needs again this year.
This web site has been developed for educators, parents, librarians and all who support arts-in-education programs in their
communities. As always, we are delighted to offer you innovative and educationally sound programs in dance, theatre, music, visual and
language arts.
If you are already familiar with Young Audiences, you know that we are part of a national non-profit network of chapters dedicated to
the arts and to educating children. Each year, we impact close to 175,000 children in grades Pre-K through 12 throughout Louisiana and we
are the first arts-in-education organization ever awarded the National Medal of the Arts.
In the more than four decades since our inception, we have evolved from an organization that offered in-school performances, to one
that considers our artist residencies, student classroom workshops and teacher professional development workshops essential to our work. And our educational partnerships continue to grown and strengthen.
Our SMART (Science*Math*Arts*Recreation*Technology) After-School and Summer Programs are centered on the basic premise
that all children can learn when they are in a nurturing environment with knowledgeable and caring adults who are committed to their
academic and social development. Young Audiences offered SMART at 15 schools in 2006-2007 and are planning to add more sites this
year. Our new national Arts for Learning Lessons augment school literacy instruction for 3rd through 6th grade students. Created for use
by classroom teachers who have no special training in the arts, each unit focuses on building students understanding of specific literacy
objectives.
Our ArtsPartners program is a collaboration between a school or school district, Young Audiences, and community arts and cultural
organizations to create dynamic and enriching learning experiences for students through curriculum integrated arts programs. Responding
to a need for quality Early Learning opportunities, Young Audiences has developed specially designed programs for pre-school children.
These are just some of the exciting projects that Young Audiences can offer you. Please feel free to contact us at 504-523-3525 with
your questions or to schedule a program. The staff at Young Audiences looks forward to working with you and your students.
Sincerely,
The Young Audiences’ Staff
